New Dawn Foundation is the non-governmental arm of New Dawn Limited established on the 17th October 2017 by a team of young entrepreneurs from the reality television show called The Next Titan.
The Task was to carry out a corporate social responsibility in a community after assessing the needs of such community in just 72 hours.
New Dawn Foundation set out to carry out its corporate social responsibility [CSR] in Egun Community in Ajegunle, Lagos.
Our CSR Goal Included:
Increasing Access to safe and hygienic toilet systems. With the provision of Eco friendly Waterless toilets.
Reducing environmental pollution by encouraging good waste disposals and recycling initiatives.
Increasing the potential for wealth creation via skill acquisition strategies.
Supporting existing means of livelihoods.
Conducting Free health sensitization and Malaria testing while also ensuring measures for a lasting and sustainable prevention of infections.
Ensuring children go back to school.
Promoting better health and well being through an effective referral system
About the Egun Community
The Egun Community is a calm and closely knitted community located in the heart of Ajegunle close to riverbanks.
The Major occupation of the people is Fishing and processing of fish.
Its population is roughly estimated to be 1000+. Homes in the community are mainly made of Wood and corrugated zinc sheets.
Problem Analysis in the Egun community.
There is a general poor welfare of the inhabitants of the community.
The community seems neglected, as there isn’t any governmental presence there.
The environment is densely polluted with non-degradable nylons, plastics and papers.
Due to its proximity to the water and the unhygienic nature of its environs, Febrile Illness (Malaria infections) is on the high rise. Children and youths are reported to fall ill regularly.
There isn’t any functioning and hygienic way to dispose of fecal waste. Fecal waste is being dumped back into the water bodies, which invariably increases the likelihood of Fecal- Oral transmission.
The youths are largely unemployed and idle. There is a difficulty in maximizing the fishing trade in that community due to inefficient tools.
In Under 72 hours, New Dawn Foundations, LailasBlog and Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative [YEDI] set out not to only meet the needs of this community but also to break a record of having a successful CSR in such short timings.
The newly refurbished Eco friendly Waterless toilet alongside other erected structures were handed over to the community in a very ceremonial way on the third day (Yesterday, 19th/10/2017).
This CSR was a success many thanks:
