PRACTICE SELF-AWARENESS – Daily Devotional

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

2Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)

As believers, we are called to live in a manner that reflects the character of Christ. This requires that we constantly reflect on our lives to recognize areas where our thoughts and actions may not be aligned with His will, and to ask for His strength to make necessary changes. This is the basis for the call to introspection as we see in our opening text today.

Self-awareness is the ability to gain a deeper understanding of our thoughts, emotions, and actions, and how they impact ourselves and others. It is the ability to see ourselves through the lens of God’s Word, acknowledging both our flaws and our potential, a foundation for personal growth and development.

However, self-awareness begins with inviting God to search our hearts and minds. The psalmist beautifully expresses this desire in Psalm 139:23-24, asking God to examine his heart. When we open ourselves to God’s examination in prayer, we allow Him to spotlight areas in our lives that need to be worked on.

Also, as we become more aware of our own imperfections, we develop compassion and understanding for others, seeing that we are still a work in progress ourselves. This leads us into a place of intercession for others, recognizing the place of God in bringing any true lasting change in their lives and circumstances.

Therefore, spend ample time each day reflecting on your thoughts and actions in the light of God’s Word, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal areas needing improvement, and requesting for His strength to do His will in those areas. He is committed to helping you grow and outgrow every weakness, as you trust in Him.
