UNDERSTANDING THE LUST OF THE FLESH – Daily Devotional

SCRIPTURAL TEXT:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Ephesians 2:3

The lust of the flesh simply refers to the superiority or worship of one’s desires above God. This is where a person’s desire or will drives him toconsciously engage in conducts that displease God. Hence, he exalts his own desires and will above the principles or commandments of God.

Every sin that is committed, that satisfies one’s fleshly desires, comes under this category. Those who practice such are named in scriptures as children of wrath. Wonderfully, the scriptures reveal to us the way out of this. In Galatians 5:16, we are admonished us to walk in the Spirit so that we would not fulfill the lusts or desires of the flesh. Hence, rather than fighting not to commit sin, if we focus on walking in the Spirit, sin would automatically be dispelled and would find no place in our minds. This is just like putting on light in a dark room, rather than trying to fight away the darkness. How profound!

So, as we live daily in these trying times where we could be tempted to exalt our desires above the will of God, we must give priority to walking in the Spirit, so that we would not fall or be led astray by fleshy lusts. Glory to God!

Dear Father, help me to prioritize walking in the spirit and not in the flesh daily in Jesus name

E. REDEDICATE YOURSELF TO JESUS TODAY
Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the privilege of a new day. I am especially grateful for the sacrifice of your Son Jesus on the cross for my redemption, and the privilege to walk with You day by day. I rededicate my life to you today, and declare my submission to Your Word and Your Will. I hereby cast off the works of darkness, and I put on the armour of Light, as I consecrate my body, soul and spirit to you today. Let me life bring you glory now and always. Amen.

G. PRAY FOR A COUNTRY IN NEED TODAY: AUSTRIA
Austria has 15% of its population unreached with the Gospel. Young people are more open to the Gospel than the previous generation in Austria, but churches are poorly equipped for effective youth ministry.
PRAY FOR AUSTRIA: We are praying for an outpour of the Spirit upon the land, leading to salvation of souls.

H.PRAY FOR JERUSALEM
Father, I ask today that there will be peace in Jerusalem and that your purposes be established in that city. Amen (Psa. 122:6)
