BE DISCERNING – Daily Devotional

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Proverbs 14:15 (NKJV)

Many things in our world today are not as they appear. For example, ideas are prone to exaggeration, and people often tend to project an image different from who they truly are, etc. Thus, to take things at face value or to easily believe everything you see or hear may have dire consequences. This is where discernment comes in.

Discernment can be defined as the ability to perceive, understand, and judge things clearly. It is being able to distinguish between what is true and what is false, what is beneficial and what is harmful, and what is right from what is wrong.

Like our opening text states, discernment requires looking well, which means giving thoughtful consideration in your decision making. It is weighing what you are presented with against a set standard of values.

Thus, to exercise discernment, you must have constant exposure to sound knowledge, and stay up to date in your field of operation. Your depth of knowledge and exposure in a field serves as a benchmark for making sound decisions in that field.

For example, a believer who is out of tune with the Word of God, and inconsistent in fellowship with the Holy Spirit may often fall for the lies of the devil (Luke 4:4). Also, an entrepreneur who is not well-versed in the knowledge of his business, may easily fall for scams and frauds.

Therefore, train yourself to look beyond the physical presentation of things, and to discern the true nature and intent of the people you relate with, by prioritizing knowledge.

🙏 DAILY PRAYER GUIDE
Oh Lord my God, give me a heart of discernment, that I may know what to choose, in the name of Jesus.

🏞️ PRAYER FOR A NATION – NAMIBIA
The Church in Namibia is growing. Partnerships between Churches are still a problem, but there are cases where denominations are starting to work together to reach the Northern parts and isolated areas of Namibia. As with many African countries, syncretism is a reality as many people mix their cultural practices with Christianity.

  1. Prayer for the nation: Father in the name of Jesus, pour out your Spirit upon Namibia and cause the church in the nation to experience a revival in the name of Jesus.
  2. Prayer for the leaders: Father in the name of Jesus, we pray for the government of Namibia that it will make policies that favour the course of the Gospel in the nation, in Jesus Name.

🕍 PRAYER FOR ISRAEL – ( Psalm 122:6 )
Father, I ask today that there will be peace in Jerusalem and that your purposes be established in that city. Amen

💒 PRAYER FOR UNITY IN THE CHURCH
Father in the name of Jesus, we pray that the body of Christ will grow in the unity of the faith, thus, measuring unto the stature and fullness of Christ, in Jesus Name.

☄️ PRAYER FOR SOULS / REVIVAL
Father in the name of Jesus, we tear down every veil that is covering in the eyes of the unsaved in our city. Cause them to see the light and come to salvation, in Jesus Name.
