Watchfulness is the attentive care that a person directs towards every aspect of his or her life, so that he is not caught by surprise on the happenings around him. Hence, the disposition of a watchful person is that of observance, attentiveness, and vigilance.
Just as Jesus Christ warned his disciples in our opening text today to “watch and pray” so they would not fall into temptation, we too must learn to be alert and prepare for the challenges that may come our way. By being vigilant and taking proactive steps to address potential problems, we can avoid making costly mistakes and falling into the traps of the enemy.
Specifically in business, it is important to stay alert and aware of happenings in your industry and the market. This involves keeping up with the latest trends and competition, so you can identify opportunities and potential threats, and make informed decisions that will help you stay ahead.
Being watchful also means that you must be proactive, not reactive, in your approach to life. By being alert to notice trends and changes in the prevailing condition of your home, business, or society, you can be better positioned to anticipate challenges, pray, and plan ahead.
Therefore, you can learn to minimize the impact of unexpected challenges by being watchful. Make it a practice to observe potential changes, and take them up in the place of prayer to tap into the mind of God on how to prepare and prevail, no matter the circumstances. This is the secret to sustained success in life, ministry, business, and career.
